Context (Video Installation)

Every experience is shaped by its context

The artwork is composed by the eyes of the viewer as they read the single, inescapable word appearing on each of the seven screens.

The images of each theme form internally, among emotions, as the graphic and sound dimensions take shape. From spectator to participant, in the “excruciatingly slow, relentless speed” of the video, a narrative unfolds within you. But it’s something indescribable, derived from who you were and who you are now as you watch: all the steps you’ve taken in your life have led you here, to this moment. Existence is an ongoing inner journey. From which one never truly exits.

The wind blows through ABANDONMENT, leaving dust in its wake. DEPORTATION is a train disappearing into the distance, marked by the deafening noise of a mechanical gear – yet, at the same time, one can distinctly feel it’s organic – carrying away, beat after beat, clusters of individuals, groups, communities. Then, on a subsequent screen, in the elegance of black and white, there’s just a sign, unreadable. You try to focus, to tune in correctly to interpret it, but it’s merely DECEIT.

LOSS is a light that conceals. Around, only silence. Again, a code: Morse. Reciting the Nuremberg racial laws, in German, the original 1935 edition. Revealing the chains of SEGREGATION.

In VIOLENCE, the fire burns, crackling and vibrating the darkness. RECONCILIATION is the journey upwards, where the world merges with the sky, following the celestial grooves of light. The word advances forcefully, carrying with it a sensation, then a feeling, then awareness, then an overarching vision, and finally, it slips away.

But is everything truly the same as before?
