Ecomuseum of the Upper Maira Valley (Cuneo)
Customized Digital Books to Make Children the Protagonists
A widespread ecomuseum across the territory to narrate ancient itinerant professions and directly engage young visitors.
Piedmont, a crossroads for many populations arriving in Italy through mountain passes, has a rich history of cultural and commercial exchanges throughout the ages. The multimedia stations distributed across various museum sites invite tourists and schools to take an active role in stories narrated by epic figures such as the barrel maker, the cloth seller, or the anchovy vendor. These are the deeds of individuals who truly lived in the upper Maira Valley in the nineteenth century, inventing itinerant professions to support their families.
Designed for an international audience, the installations recount the journeys of these men, inviting visitors to insert their names and cities of origin and choose their physical appearance, thus becoming an active part of the narrative, conveyed through the universal language of pencil drawings.
Each book can be digitally flipped through simply by moving fingers across the screen, while the narrating voice, available in Italian, Occitan, English, and French, accurately follows each page.
