MUSE: Malga Fazzon Visitor Centre
An imaginative yet wholly real journey through the enchantment of the Val di Sole
MUSE: Malga Fazzon Visitor Centre (Val di Sole, Trento)
A journey made up of three multimedia exhibits, in which the virtual dimension takes shape by bringing together — as closely and coherently as possible — technique and content, form and thought.
Exhibit 1 – The innovative interactive 3D physical model of the Val di Sole The snow-white, sculpted surface of the model is bathed in light and becomes an electronic fabric, a digital environment in motion. The narrative unfolds across four different themes (Geography, Geology, Glaciers, Ecosystems), which the visitor can activate simply by resting their fingers on the wooden console, thanks to detection by special sensors. The combination of video footage, infographics and 3D reconstructions allows the visitor to discover the nature and enchantment of the Val di Sole with an unprecedented emotional impact.
Exhibit 2 – Life within a trunkHere the visitor sets out on a virtual exploration of the stories ideally contained within each ring of a larch trunk more than six hundred years old. A woody matter, wrapped in an aura of sacredness, whose rings come back to life: touched by visitors, they recount the history of humankind, of this place and of events that took place around the world across the ages spanned by the larch’s existence.
Exhibit 3 – The immersive landscapeOn the rear wall, a large panoramic projection opens a virtual window onto the entire Val di Sole: a time-lapse video of a whole day charts the play of sun, wind and clouds, and with them the shifting sounds of nature. Recorded live, these sounds completely surround the viewer thanks to the multichannel stereophonic speakers positioned in every corner of the space.
The aim is to guide the audience along a thread of content that revolves around the mountains and the Val di Sole — which becomes at once the subject and the vessel of the permanent exhibition — yet also touches on great themes that belong to humankind.
The path of this widespread exhibition is a journey through space and time towards the visitors’ growing awareness of their own identity in relation to nature and of the future that lies ahead; all of this thanks to a thoughtful use of multimedia resources, placed at the service of the content conveyed and able to communicate and to move.
The message is intended to be scientific, educational, contextual, symbolic and emotional, forging a bond with history, the present and our future, in the hope of setting in motion a virtuous circle towards knowledge and the discovery — or rediscovery — of the important themes it presents.
