Photographs have the gift of making suspended emotions visible, holding them still in the moments captured within each frame. It is a suspended time, one that reveals all the emotional density with which the Sacra di San Michele and the natural elements surrounding it are charged.
The exhibition layout, shaped like an hourglass, is divided into four rooms which, after an initial introductory space, represent the three states of the Soul: awareness of the world, ecstatic longing, and the sense of the eternal.
In this final space, with the help of technology, a dynamic triptych takes shape, capable of revealing to the visitor the ceaseless flow of time. Here, in fact, three large screens project the fruit of the artist’s creative experimentation: three films, each composed of several thousand photographs in rapid sequence.
The accompanying music was composed especially for the occasion, respectively by Manuel Torello for hang and by Enrico Euron for orchestra. The result is a non-place scenario where, against wholly black surfaces, the only presences are the images, whose subject becomes at once both the content and the container of the exhibition.
